New York Hardcore

“New York in the early 80s was like Disneyland and hell. Every corner there was a hustle. For fifty cents you could see three pornos and a kung fu movie. The city was fuckin’ nuts. But, uhm, I fuckin’ loved it.” – Mike Judge*

Nice mini-documentary about the New York Hardcore scene, featuring an interview with Dito Montiel, who went from that scene to Hollywood, where he made A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints about growing up in Queens in the 1980s.

And be sure to check out Roger Miret’s memoir of life on the Lower East Side in the 80s.

*That’s Mike Judge the straightedge hardcore guy, not Mike Judge the Beavis & Butthead Idiocracy guy. Uh huh-huh … huh-huh-huh …
